Promoting the baritone saxophone
and its practitioners.
Mission Statements & Goals:
To provide global performing opportunities for baritone saxophonists regardless of age, gender, or race. We are an organization based on inclusion and equity and our mission is to increase the visibility and acceptance of the baritone saxophone worldwide through performance and education.
Our concerts will consist of a cross representation of styles, approaches, and concepts including jazz, classical, and world music in all of their varied interpretations and forms.
While based in NYC, Low Blow Music will feature performances from baritone saxophonists from across the globe spanning the musical universe. The concerts will be live and streamed to increase the accessibility of the concerts for those unable to attend in person.
Another goal is to create the opportunity for young baritone saxophonists just starting on their path as professional musicians to help them launch their career, increase their audience base, and give them experience as bandleaders. This opportunity is ,of course, based on their ability to play at a serious level.
Our first live performance will be an all day baritone marathon in Brooklyn New York at Club Ornithology on Saturday, October 8th, 2022! The club will be open to the public, and access to the live-stream will be granted through membership to Low Blow Music.

Gary Smulyan (Founder)
Baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan was born April 4, 1956, in Bethpage, New York. Today he is critically acclaimed across-the-board and recognized as the major voice on the baritone saxophone. His playing is marked by an aggressive rhythmic sense, an intelligent and creative harmonic approach — and perhaps most importantly – a strong and incisive wit.
-
Frank Basile
Since moving to New York in 2001, Frank Basile has been fortunate to establish himself as one of today's most in-demand baritone saxophonists.
-
Claire Daly
International jazz performer and Berklee College of Music graduate, Claire studied with legends Joe Viola, John LaPorta, and more. She has taught privately in NYC and academically since 1986 and is available for gigs, clinics, workshops, and residencies.

Hadro’s primary instrument is baritone saxophone, though he also performs on bass clarinet, Bb clarinet, and flute, and is one of the only working musicians in New York City to play the bass saxophone. He is the curator of JazzBariSax.com
-
Brian Landrus
After ten albums as a leader, multi-instrumentalist and composer Dr. Brian Landrus has become an internationally recognized low woodwind artist. Landrus specializes on the low woodwind family, specifically: baritone saxophone, bass saxophone, bass clarinet, contra alto clarinet, alto flute, and bass flute. As a composer, Landrus has written for solo instrument to symphony orchestra.

Jason Marshall
Jason Marshall’s 2003 arrival in New York City signified the continuation of hard swinging, forward thinking baritone saxophone playing. With early encouragement to appreciate all types of music, Jason has developed a style that encompasses with whole of African-American music. A special interest is given to the amalgamation of soul, R and B, and funk with straight-ahead jazz. Years of dedication and perseverance have resulted in a giant, soulful sound and instantly appealing concept.
